So today has been a great day, with it getting better and better as the day has gone on!!!
First off early this morning, around 8:30am Murray, my boss called me into his office, and then asked me to close the door, this usually means a more sensative topic.
BUT BOY WAS I SURPRISED BUT WHAT HAPPENED NEXT!!!!!!
About a month ago, he pulled me in to discuss my wage increase effective May 1, and I was told I was getting $0.75 then and again on Nov. 1, but today he changed all of that!!!
As of May 1, I'll get a raise of $3 per hour!!! thats an 18% Increase from what I am making today, but wait it gets even better, on top of that raise I will now be on the Bonus Plan, including a $750 Bonus on May 1!!!! That Bonus pays for my Tattoo!!
So thats a sweet raise nearly $7000 a year!!!!
So just after this I went online to try and purchase Pre-Sale tickets for Sam Roberts from The Bear (www.thebearrocks.com) and this time (umlike for Franz Ferdinand) I did get through, so May 20 Heidi and I will be seeing Sam Roberts at the Starlite Room and our tickets only cost us $10 each, instead of the $25 each they will sell for when they are released to the public.
So it's been a great day!!!

So I just got off the phone with my insurance adjuster from my accident, my car was a write-off, and I was offered $6000 initially by the insurance company. I told them my car is valued at $8000 - $10,000 in the local market, they wanted evidence so I emailed them several links of near identical vehicles showing prices of $7995 - $10,000.
I told them I had a signed letter from a local dealership Healy Ford, stating they would sell the vehicle for $8995 on there lot today, with a realistic selling price of $8000. They said this letter was no good because it was not a chrysler dealership. To me that made no sense, since any lot may have a used vehicle, but anyway, I had a letter arranged from a Chrysler Dealership, but I won't need it now.
I have been offered and settled on $8000, plus an additional 7% for $560 since I am buying a vehicle from a place that has to charge GST on it.
I am buying a 2001 Pontiac Montana Extended Mini-Van, fully loaded, for $9990, thats about $5000 below retail and about $1500 below wholesale. I was put in touch with the Dealership owner through a fellow I work with. The van just needs to get into the shop to have a compelete safety inspection, and having anything fixed that is wrong with it, then into the detail shop, and were all set.
Today I am going down to the dealership to sign the papers I need to sign, and then when we recieve the cheque from the insurance company, we will put the $8000 on the loan. the extra 7% we are putting towards christmas this year, since without it, we would be having a small christmas, but now I can get Heidi what I want to get her!!!!
The total claim on my car should be in the range of $10,000 - $15,000, including storage, towing, etc.
Well I'm off, I'm starting to feel a bit better and this news today helps even more.
Ciao

Well for my work day it went ok, then it all went to FUCK!!!!!
So I'm driving home on 137 Ave, about 500 meters from 170st, and this fucking crazy bastard asshole decides he wants to pass me, when I have barely a car length from a Semi I'm about to pass. He pulls out and guns it then swerves at me once, then just drives into my front end pushing me into the median in the centre of the road. He then drives off, and since it was an older model GMC/CHEV van with a plumbers rack on top and a black triangle with a red stripe through it logo on the door.
I am the left with my car completely crippled and undriveable. And the guy who hit me long gone!
In the half hour the cops took to arrive, ya I'm sure it was a priority call like they told me. I had only three vehicles stop, the first a nice Semi Driver, who lent me his phone to call 911, at the time I called I could still see the guy who hit me driving away, and told the 911 Operators this.
So I called the insurance company and so far it has been an ok experince, I arranged the body shop and a rental car last night over the phone with the Insurance Company and got picked up at 9:15 this morning to get the car.
Then it was off to the doctors, where I recieved the most X-Rays I have ever been given....it was over an hour, they discovered Muscle Stress and Strain, well duh...and I have a break in my right foot. SO I'm off from school this weekend, talked to my Prof, and he said next week is fine. But I am still keeping the other plans we had, I want and think it will be good for me to go to Yuk Yuks tonight and Zach's Baby Shower tommorrow, if I have to leave early, I can, it's not a big deal. I'm sure Heidi can get a ride home.
I can now see why Edmonton has the Country's Worst Drivers.

So I thought I was completely happy at my job until today....... So my Boss calls me and the new Sales Guy (former Customer Service Guy/Marketing Helper) and tells us how when we deal with suppliers, we cannot make committments, we cannot place orders, etc..this is the 2nd time he has talked with us on this, since hte Sales Guy, has twice told suppliers that we will order there products and then we did not use them in the end. This was completely his fault, yet I have still been given shit about it twice now. So anyway....after he's done talking about that, he tells the sales guy to go and asks me to stay. I'm assuming he wants to talk about some of the projects that I have been working on with him lately....but am I wrong! He instead wants to give me shit for leaving work 1/2 hour - an hour early 2 maybe 3 times a month. He says he wants it to stop, unless there is a valid reason (appointments, etc). Now you may say that sounds reasonable, but you need to understand the following. My shift is supposed to run from 8a, - 5pm, with 2 - 15 minute coffee breaks and a 1 - hour lunch break. And everything outside of that time is Overtime. Now this is what really goes on. I'm paid by the hour, I work from 7am/7:30am - 5:00pm 5 days a week and have been doing so for nearly 6 years, without once ever asking to be compensated for that time. They expect me to be there at that time now, without compensating it. So that alone puts me working lets say 2.5 hours a week unpaid so far. Now since I am stupid busy most days, I only take my morning 15 min coffee, and skip the other 1:15 that I am entitled to for breaks. I do not miss them by choice, but I have work that needs to be done. So lets say this works out to anoter 4 hours a week. That brings the weekly unpaid total at 6.5 hours a week. now on top of that I spend approximatley 4 hours a month on average at meetings outside of my normal work hours, so lets say the total unpaid is 7.5 hours a week. so 7.5 x 52 = 390 Hours a year overtime unpaid, thats over 2 additional months of work days. So 390 hours x $16 = $6240 of unpaid overtime I work per year on average. So now do you think that leaving a total of 3 hours early per month on average is too much? An example of what he does want me doing: - Leaving an hour early because I have to go do some shopping for work My reasoning is would you prefer me to take 2 hours out of the middle of my already hectic day to do the same shopping - Leaving early after two days of meetings so I can study for a midterm the next day My reasoning is would you prefer me to not do what you have encouraged me to do and get some schooling that will benefit the company. I am taking my Marketing Diploma at NAIT http://www.nait.ca. I want to make sure I excel in it to best use it for my job. To me taking a few extra hours to study is definately worth the companies time, if he would allow me to sit at my desk and do it I would. So I have decided that from now on, until 8am I will not take calls, talk about projects. I will not matter what not take calls, visitors, etc on my coffee or lunch breaks. I will demand any after hours meetings, tradeshows, etc are paid overtime. If I can't take off an hour early every now and then with all the extra time I put in, then fuck it...8-5 thats it! So tell me, am I in the wrong here? Matt
